The maned wolf is the largest canid of South America, resembling a large fox with reddish fur. This mammal is found in open and semi-open habitats, especially grasslands with scattered bushes and trees. Rarely seen in the wild. This indivivual was photographed at the front steps of an old monastery in Brazil, which in the last several years also has been used as a hotel for naturalists and photographers. For over 30 years the priests had left dinner scraps out in the open at night, which has been atracking these wolfs. This has become a routine for many years and the wolfs have become accostumed to the presence of photographers which come to photograph them from all over the world.
